Invasive Species Prevention

Overview

Aquatic invasive species are a significant threat to all lakes, as they grow exponentially and cause impacts to water quality and recreational use.  To keep any new invasive species from entering Lake George, the Park Commission instituted a Mandatory Trailered Boat Inspection Program in 2014 that continues to this day.  All trailered boats that are launching into Lake George must be inspected for invasive species at one of our seven Regional Boat Inspection Stations around Lake George.  There is no cost for these inspections, and if the boat needs to be cleaned, there is no charge for that as well.  The inspection takes about five minutes, and if the boat does not arrive ‘Clean, Drained and Dry’ a wash may take between 5-10 minutes.  Following the inspection, you may launch your boat at any of Lake George’s many launch points.  Please take a few moments to watch the video below for how to make sure you are not transporting invasive species on your boat, and thank you for coming to Lake George!
